About the founder
Mr. Pheng, Born on 28th January 1958, a self-taught artist from Langkawi with a journey that began at the age of 18, Founder of Pheng Art Corner since 1986.
Renowned for transforming imagination into stunning reality. A versatile artist, breathing life into every masterpiece.
His vision goes beyond creating beauty—he is deeply committed to making premium art affordable for those who love art but may not have the means to acquire traditional fine art. Through his work and gallery, he continues to bridge the gap between passion and possibility.
History
From a Humble Corner to a Celebrated Art Space
Pheng Art Corner began its journey in 1986, during a pivotal moment when Kuala Lumpur’s iconic Central Market transformed from a traditional wet market into a cultural and artistic hub. Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Pheng established a small art stall tucked into one of the market’s corners, driven by a clear vision: to share his artistic passion and make meaningful, locally inspired art accessible to both Malaysians and visiting tourists.
As an artist deeply committed to his craft, Mr. Pheng would often paint live at the heart of the art market — drawing admiration from passersby who were captivated by his brushwork and his ability to breathe life into canvas. His presence became a familiar and beloved fixture within the community.
In 2007, Pheng Art Corner evolved from a humble market stall to a dedicated gallery space, proudly carrying forward its name — a nod to its roots at the corner of Central Market.
Building on its success and ever-growing support, a second gallery was launched in 2011 at the entrance of the Central Market Annexe, affectionately known as the Art Lane. This new space continued to celebrate creativity and craftsmanship, providing a vibrant platform for showcasing Malaysian artistry.
To this day, Mr. Pheng continues to paint live, drawing the admiration of hundreds of passersby who stop to appreciate his work.
